City of Missisauga Assistance Programs
Everyone should be able to participate in sport and recreation as it provides opportunities to have fun, learn new skills, be physically active and meet new people. The City of Mississauga offers a number of financial assistance programs for all ages:
Help for low-income families and individuals in Mississauga to participate in Recreation and Parks programs.
Jerry Love Children’s Fund
A subsidy fund for Mississauga residents 15 years of age and under to participate in City Recreation Division programs.
Wal-Mart at Play
A FREE drop in program for 10 to 18 year olds at various Community Centre where participants learn a new sport and/or develop their skills.
Next Step to Active Living
A therapeutic recreation program offered for adults 21 years and over with acquired physical disabilities. A modest fee is charged per session.
External Assistance Programs
Jumpstart – Canadian Tire
Canadian Tire Jumpstart’s core purpose is to enrich the lives of kids in need through sports and physical activity. The registered charity assists children/youth aged 4 to 18 from families in financial need to help with the costs associated with registration, equipment and/or transportation. In addition to enabling participation in high-profile sports like hockey, soccer and swimming, Jumpstart helps kids take dance lessons and martial arts classes, play ringette or take part in several dozen other activities. In order to qualify your family must be in a demographic which would be considered in financial need as defined by Government guidelines. For further information and to apply visit Jumpstart.
KidSport Ontario provides grant assistance to local children 18 years old or younger who are facing financial barriers preventing them from joining organized sport. There are 22 community KidSport chapters across the province of Ontario who assist under-resourced kids play a season of sport by providing financial assistance for the registration fee and/or sports equipment. Find a chapter in your area to enquire about how to apply for a grant.
